Innovative Instructional Design in Primary Mathematics in Macau: Cultural Anchors and AI-Empowered Process Visualization

Abstract: Addressing three major issues in primary mathematics education in Macau—cultural disconnection (weak linkage between mathematical knowledge and local culture), cognitive gaps (insufficient student transfer and application abilities), and unidimensional evaluation (overemphasis on written tests and neglect of learning processes)—this paper proposes an innovative pathway centered on a "Multicultural Context Chain" and an "AI-Empowered Four-Dimensional Process Evaluation System." Through a two-year implementation across eight public primary schools in Macau (sample size n = 1,200), this model has significantly improved students' mathematical application skills (with an average score increase of 28% in the PISA mathematics assessment), cultural identity (a 35% increase according to a University of Macau survey), and classroom engagement (active inquiry rate reaching 91%). Grounded in Macau's "Smart City" educational vision, this study develops localized case studies such as "Geometric Analysis of Portuguese Pavement" and "Proportional Calculations in Egg Tart Baking," providing actionable strategies for frontline educators.
